Yacht Club Review
Our Favorite Summertime Disney Hotel!
Disney World’s Yacht Club is one of our favorite Disney resort hotels. This hotel is has an ideal location. Epcot is a very short walk and Hollywood Studios is an easy boat ride or slightly longer walk away. The Yacht Club is an ideal summer resort because it has our favorite hotel pool at Disney World. The cherry on top for this resort, are the various food and drink locations.
Disney World’s Yacht Club connect directly with Disney World’s Beach Club. The hotels are often referred to as the Yacht and Beach Club. Situated on the same property, these two hotels are connected by internal hotel walkways and outside paths. The main hotel pool area is situated in the middle and shared by guests at both resorts.
The two hotels do have separate lobbies and offer different theming. The Yacht Club appropriately has an awesome nautical theme. We often stay at the Yacht Club because it tends to be cheaper, but many of our comments below would apply to a stay at Disney’s Beach Club.
What are the benefits of this hotel?
There are a lot of benefits to staying at the Yacht Club.
We love this hotel, especially in the summer, because of the pool. When we say the pool is awesome, what we really mean is “the pools are awesome!” Multiple pools all combine to make up the guest pool area. This area includes a small lazy river! There is also an awesome water slide and a pool with sand that you can build sand castles in.
Another major benefit of this hotel is location, location, location! If you look at a map of this area, you have the Disney Boardwalk hotel, the Yacht & Beach Club, and the Swan and Dolphin. One huge advantage about this area is that you can walk or boat to both Epcot and Hollywood Studios. Also, if you go through Epcot, you can get to Magic Kingdom by monorail. That means you only need the bus get to Animal Kingdom and Disney Spring (which is a major plus for us). If walking isn’t you thing, there is still a bus option to Magic Kingdom.
If you go back to the hotel frequently, this hotel is very convenient because you can quickly walk back or take a short boat ride. Most of the rooms have an outdoor balcony or patio which is also nice added space for an early morning coffee.
The Boardwalk area has a ton of great food and drinks (which are an easy walk away). Luckily the Yacht and Beach Club have great dining options too! Just outside of the pool on the Boardwalk side is a bar where you can get a poolside beverages and food. On the hotel side of the pool area, there is Beaches and Cream. This old school soda shop has a to-go counter with ice cream and alcoholic milkshakes. You can also make a reservation to sit down and dine at Beaches and Cream. We recommend making a reservation several weeks out.
Ale and Compass is a newer restaurant located just off of the Yacht Club lobby. We have had delicious breakfasts here and would highly recommend it. It is also generally easy to make a reservation last minute for Ale and Compass. In addition to the dining area, Ale and Compass has a nice bar area. If you are looking for something quick, the Yacht Club recently renovated its quick service location. The quick service area is somewhat small, but is clean and nicely done.
The hotel rooms at the Yacht Club were recently renovated. The updates provide a clean and modern room, which we really enjoy. See our video below for a quick room tour. The one thing we weren’t a huge fan off was the sliding doors in the bathroom area. While it saves room, the doors are pretty heavy and we didn’t love it opening and closing them. But overall, we really like the updated room.
With being a Disney property, guests also get the standard Disney hotel perks. These perks consist of: making FastPasses 60 days in advance, free transportation to and from the Orlando Airport with Disney’s Magical Express, Disney park transportation (boats and buses to the parks and Disney Springs), extra magic hours, free magic bands, and delivery of in park purchases to the hotel.
What are the downsides of this hotel?
The biggest downside is the price. The yacht club can be very expensive, especially in summer when people are wanting to take advantage of the pool. Sometimes you can get a good deal, especially with Disney World Special Offers. See the bottom of the article for a link to the Disney Special Offers website. If price isn’t an option and you want to stay at a Disney World hotel, this is definitely one of our top, if not our top, choice.
While we love this resort, we often will opt for the Swan or Dolphin because of the price difference. See our review of the Swan and Dolphin here.
While we really enjoy Ale and Compass for breakfast or brunch, we aren’t huge fans of any of the food options at this hotel for a date night. Yachtsman Steakhouse would be the signature date night option. We went to Yachtsman for our anniversary a couple years ago. We were underwhelmed. The food was okay, the service was okay, and the atmosphere was …. okay. We think there are much better options at Disney World. If you want to get dressed up for a nice dinner, we would recommend taking an Uber to a differently location such as Disney’s California Grill or Disney’s Flying Fish.
