Satu’li Canteen Review: The best quick service in Disney World
Satu’li Canteen: Best Quick Service Meal in Disney World
Our go-to quick service location in Disney World is Satu’li Canteen. Satu’li Canteen is located in Pandora at Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park. There are many reasons to love Satu’li. Our main reasons are: there is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, they have alcoholic beverage options, and most importantly, the food is delicious, healthy, and unique. We highly recommend having Satu’li Canteen on your must-try Disney restaurant list!
Should Adults Eat Here?
The title of this post may give it away a bit, but yes, we highly recommend adults eat at Satu’li Canteen. For us, the main reason to go to Satu’li Canteen is the food. Not only is the food delicious, it is consistently delicious. The quality and consistency of the food at Satu’li is at the top of the quick service options in Disney World.
Satu’li Canteen serves alcohol. And this isn’t just a generic draft beer. Satu’li offers several drinks themed around Pandora and a couple of local craft beers. While more and more quick service locations are offering alcoholic drink options, we are big fans of the drinks you can get at Satu’li Canteen.
Quick service locations can get a bit crazy. While Satu’li Canteen can get busy, we really appreciate the atmosphere. The theming is really well done. We also have to complement the cast members that work here because the seating areas are usually extremely clean.
The food at Satu’li Canteen is unlike any other quick service location at Disney World. Most entrees are akin to the “create your own bowl” method. With this option, the guest picks a base, protein, and sauce. The base options currently consist of rice and black beans, red and sweet potato hash, noodles, and a hearty salad. For the protein you can pick from chili-garlic shrimp, beef, chicken, and chili crispy fried tofu. Lastly the sauces are black bean vinaigrette, creamy herb dressing, and charred green onion vinaigrette.
One thing I often do with the sauces is ask for two different sauce flavors on the side. I like having a bit of each with my meal. If you are unsure of which sauce you want, this is also a great option. If you don’t specify to have the sauce on the side, they will put it on your meal for you.
My go-to combo is tofu with potato hash and green onion vinaigrette and black bean vinaigrette on the side. Jeff’s go to meal is chicken with noodles and creamy herb dressing. The only food item we haven’t had is the salad base. We definitely think of Satu’li as a heathier Disney meal, but we aren’t ready to have a salad while on vacation haha.
While Jeff and I do not have any food allergies, Satu’li Canteen does have a lot of information posted about allergy friendly menus. If you have a food allergy, be sure to speak with a cast member.
There are two desserts offered at Satu’li: Blueberry Cream Cheese Mousse and Chocolate Cake. The blueberry mousse is our easy winner. Not only is it really pretty, but it is delicious. There are a lot of different dessert options at Disney World. If you are trying to limit your desserts, we probably wouldn’t splurge on this one. But if you are in full vacation mode and want a dessert, we definitely recommend tying the Blueberry Mousse.
Satu’li has both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options. The reason that the drinks stand out at Satu’li Canteen is because they are not your generic wine and beer options that you get at many quick service locations. For example the Hawkes’ Grog Ale is a green Pandora beer with “Fruity Hop with notes of Apricot and Peach.” Jeff is a fan of this beer and all of the beers that he has tried at Satu’li Canteen.
While we have had most of the beers, the only wine that we have tried is the Dreamwalker Sangria. The sangria is white sangria which is premixed with Blue Curaçao, giving it a light blue color. The Dreamwalker Sangria is really good. The one odd thing about this drink is that they put red grapes in it as garnish. If you’re looking for a wine option with your lunch, I would recommend the Dreamwalker Sangria.
There are also non-alcoholic drink options which include soda, a free cup of water, and a Pandora specific tropical drink (Pandoran Sunrise). While we have not hat the Pandoran Sunrise, if you want a non-alcoholic drink, we would recommend the night blossom. The Night Blossom is a delicious slushy that can be purchased at Pongu Pongu, which is located just outside of Satu’li Canteen.
Atmosphere and Service
The atmosphere at Satu’li Canteen is really good for a quick service location. The theming continues from Pandora outside. Disney describes Satu’li as “Indulge in the art and culture of the Na’vi while dining inside this former RDA mess hall.” We think they nailed the description. We almost always sit inside because we want the AC. If you visit at a cooler time of year, the outdoor seating can give you some fun views of Pandora.
The service at Satu’li Canteen is amazing. The food is ready quickly and the cast members are very friendly. The cast members in the main seating area will help get anything that you may need. They also often pick up our empty plates and trays before we have a chance to stand up and take them to the garbage bins. While we often don’t talk about service when it comes to quick-service restaurants, Satu’li Canteen is the exception. The cast members are excellent.
If you are at the parks at a really busy time of year or if you are going to Satu’li Canteen at peak lunch time, we recommend using Mobile Ordering. If you are not familiar with mobile, click here.
Things To Be Aware Of
While we love everything that we have had at Satu’li Canteen, it is a somewhat limited menu. The build your own bowl style is nice because there are a lot of combos that can be. However, if you want pizza or chicken nuggets and fries, you will be out of luck at Satu’li Canteen. Also, this is a quick service restaurant. So if you’re looking for a romantic lunch or dinner spot, this is not it.
Our Overall Recommendation
We think every adult should eat at Satu’li Canteen at least once. The prices are reasonable (for Disney) and the food is excellent. The variety of healthy options are a welcomed change from many of the other quick service locations in Disney.
