Is Magic Kingdom Fun for Adults?
Of the 4 Disney World theme parks, one could argue that Magic Kingdom is the most kid-focused. That doesn’t mean that Magic Kingdom isn’t fun for adults. Magic Kingdom offers adults a chance to escape reality and experience a variety of rides and shows. In this post, we present what we feel are the top things that make Magic Kingdom fun for adults.
As an adult, one reason to go to Disney World is to escape to somewhere magical. Forget about your work emails, the laundry, and all of your other adult problems. Instead, let’s go to a place with a castle and where you can feel like a kid again.
Speaking of castles, if you tell someone you are going to Disney World, we bet the thing that pops into their head is the Magic Kingdom castle. Magic Kingdom’s theming, with the castle and the 6 themed lands, presents adults with a variety of areas to explore. If you want the classic Disney experience, we recommend going to Magic Kingdom.
Magic Kingdom is also the original Disney World theme park. The history and details in this park add to the experience. If you are an adult that has fun learning, you could add to your fun in the Magic Kingdom by taking a tour. The tours provide additional facts about the history of the park. However tours are an additional cost. For more information about our favorite Magic Kingdom tour, click here.
Best Fireworks in Disney World
Part of the fun of Magic Kingdom is being able to do things that you cannot do every day. The fireworks at Magic Kingdom are impressive and a perfect way to end your day. If you are looking to have a good time at the Magic Kingdom, the fireworks are not to be missed.
Magic Kingdom has at least one fireworks show per night. Currently the main fireworks show is Happily Ever After. This show consists of fireworks, music, and images projected onto the castle. The show is amazing and we would argue that it is the best fireworks show at Disney World.
Variety of Rides
Let’s face it, as you get older, things change. One of those things may be your ability to do a virtual reality ride 5 times in a row or an intense roller coaster. Magic Kingdom is a great park because it has a variety of rides and shows. If you like thrill rides, Splash Mountain, Space Mountain, and Thunder Mountain have you covered. If you don’t care for thrill rides, there are other great attractions such as the Haunted Mansion, the PeopleMover, and the Enchanted Tiki Room. The wide variety of rides and attractions at Magic Kingdom provides adults with a variety of ways to have fun at the park.
Depending on the time of year that you head to Disney World, the waits for the rides may be long. We strongly recommend getting fastpasses to help add to your Magic Kingdom fun. Fastpass allows you to skip most of the wait time for a ride and fastpass is included with your park ticket. You can book up to 3 fastpasses prior to your park visit. If you want information on Disney World’s fastpass system and our advice on what rides to use your fastpasses on in the Magic Kingdom, see our post here.
Is Magic Kingdom fun for all adults?
While we wish we could say yes, the answer is no. If you want a vacation that involves little walking and no crowds, Magic Kingdom may not be for you. We have been to Magic Kingdom with adults that were hesitant about the Disney World experience. Most of them ended up having a great time. However, if you have someone that would rather be sitting at the beach and isn’t open to the idea of Disney, we wouldn’t recommend forcing them to go.
Disney typically is not a relaxing vacation and involves a fair amount of walking/standing. Magic Kingdom does have some areas to rest, but we would say that the other Disney World parks have more options when it comes to finding a place to take a break. This aspect may make Magic Kingdom less enjoyable for some adults.
Most of the time, a trip to the Magic Kingdom will involve some crowds and waiting in lines. If you or someone if your party hates crowds or waiting in line, this aspect may take any potential fun out of the trip for them. If you have no budget and want to skip most of the ride lines, look into a VIP tour. VIP tours allow you to have all of the fun of Magic Kingdom with no waits (but be warned, it comes with a pretty steep price tag).
Disney World is a great place for drinking. There are a ton of awesome bars and delicious drinks. However, if you are looking for a place to grab an alcoholic beverage, Magic Kingdom is not it. Of the Disney World parks, Magic Kingdom is the one that has a very limited number of locations with alcohol. You can get alcohol in Magic Kingdom, but only at table service restaurants (which usually requires a reservation). Also, there are not really any bars in Magic Kingdom. The other Disney World parks each have several bar options.
If alcohol is a key fun-factor for your vacation, Magic Kingdom may not be for you. If you are looking to make a compromise, one option is to go to Magic Kingdom and take a break from the park at some point by visiting one of the many hotel bars along the monorail. While it is fun to explore the monorail resorts, the trade-off is that you will be paying for the park ticket and not taking full advantage of it. If you have several days at Disney, this may not be a big deal. If you have one day, then we would recommend spending your time in the park.
At least 9 out of 10 adults that we know would have fun at Magic Kingdom. The theming, variety of rides, and fireworks all add to the fun that adults can have at Magic Kingdom. However, if someone you are traveling with says that they will not have fun in Disney World, there is a good chance they will not have fun in Disney World. If that person just wants to sit on a beach, try to convince them to go on a Disney cruise or to Aulani in Hawaii instead haha.
